Well about a week ago we had a scary thing happen. Our dog Ace was fine one minute and then the next thing we knew he was limping on his leg pretty good. At first we just thought that he had stepped on something sharp. Then as the evening progressed we realized that it was only getting worse....by that night he was not walking at all. We called the next morning to get him into the vet and were fortunate enough to get an appointment on Beau's lunch hour. He had to carry Ace to load him in the truck. The next thing to do was wait...wait...and wait some more. By Monday evening the doctor had called and said that he wanted to keep him over night. He was suffering from a neurological spinal disease. In between discs 2 &3 they had collapsed and between discs 3&4 was inflamed. This was causing him to be paralyzed. His brain is amazing and his body in excellent shape but his body is unable to transmit the information to move and function. SO SO SAD. It has been a hard hard week. The choices we were given were #1 more in depth xrays, surgery, and extensive therapy....at least $6000 all said and done....or #2 self medicate with steroids and anti-inflamatory medications and see what improvements may come. It is about a 50/50 chance he may get better and may not. It has been a waiting game and we are so saddened that our very good and active dog is now getting so tired so quickly and unable to run and play. It's been hard cause he has been a wonderful dog...no problems. So good with the kids, great hunting buddy for Beau, and part of our family. We are praying for a miracle and hoping that the medication and steroids help. He now can stand on his own....and limps around which is a huge improvement, but still not sure the extent of his ability to fully recover or not. We will see. But we love him and feel so blessed we have had him in our family!
